Silverton Mountain Guides Alaska
Ultimate Heli Trip 2011:
Take the guesswork out of deciding who to ski with in Alaska and come heli ski with Silverton Mountain Guides in Alaska. If you want to ride the best AK lines (but are afraid of getting stuck in a slower paced heli group), and are looking for the most favorable weather this is the trip for you.
We pre-screen all the clients in advance of the trip allowing well matched groups to position themselves to ski amazing AK lines (when the snow stability allows etc). Each client must either ski in Silverton first, know one of our guides who can vouch for your skiing/boarding, or have a friend who has skied with us vouch for your ability level before being accepted on the trip. You don’t have to be a pro, but this trip is for those who love to ski/board. It is the only way to ski the best lines and find the most favorable weather regardless of if you have your own group of 4 or come as a single or double etc.
After several years of doing mobile heli trips across the best parts of Alaska, we have found what we think is THE zone in the Northwestern Chugach. Our zone is larger than the Valdez and Haines areas, and has multiple micro zones each with their own unique weather patterns. This allows for finding the best snow and greatest opportunities for dodging the weather.
This 5 Night/ 5 Ski Day Package is only $5,990 (special extra early price) making it the best value in Alaska heli skiing. Each group gets the following for the base price.
1. Five days of heliskiing/boarding with 5 hours base heli time* (per group of 4 riders). The plan is to ski as much as possible each day with groups getting 12 or more runs on good days (each run typically between 2,500-5,000 of vert) $875 per person for each additional flight hour.
2. No more than three groups using the helicopter which means no waiting/more skiing.
3. Lodging and food included. Price based on multiple occupancy.
•Helicopter time is measured in Hobbs hours (actual time on throttle or in flight). 1 hour of Hobbs can provide for a substantial amount of actual skiing as it only takes a few minutes of flight time to get from the bottom of a run up to a peak etc.
Details:
Once in Anchorage, skiers will meet at 9am before the first ski day. We travel to the zone that day and prepare for skiing the following day. Each day the helicopter will fly this select handpicked group of skiers/boarders from the lodge into the mountains for this unique heli ski experience. At the end of the 5 day trip the skiers/boarders will return to Anchorage at approximately 8pm on the final day of skiing.
This private style ski trip will limit the amount of participants to 2 or 3 groups of skiers/boarders on each trip providing for a boutique heli experience. There are opportunities for clients to come as their own group of 4 or as singles, doubles etc (we already have a list of singles going).
The Northwestern Chugach Mountains have amazing ski terrain (spines like you would find in Haines and big peaks like in Valdez all in one)and better weather than Alaska’s coast where most heli skiing occurs in Alaska. April has better weather than many other times of year in Alaska and some of the best skiing. This zone gets deep snow and the weather is more reliable than near Valdez, Cordova, Haines or Girdwood providing better odds for more skiing and less time dealing with the inclement weather that Alaska is famous for. Because the Northern Chugach are at a higher altitude they can have cooler temperatures and better snow quality later in the season.
All of Alaska is filled with great terrain, but anyone who has skied Alaska knows that the abundance of snow means many no fly days at the coastal heli operations. The zone is located a little further from the ocean and provides stellar terrain combined with clearing trends and sunshine due to the geographic location. However when it clears at the coast, we are in an ideal position. The zone contains an incredible amount of ski terrain.
Due to the limited amount of available spaces and extreme interest in this epic trip, spots fill up very quickly. Price subject to change at any time until booked. It is the best way to ski AK…
